Grab the popcorn because it looks likely that Facebook’s problems will only worsen from here.
In the beginning of 2018, the Cambridge Analytica story broke and many where shocked to learn how Facebook allegedly handled user data. After a major restructuring, many policy changes, algorithm adjustments, deleting 583 million fake accounts (in 1st quarter alone), and even taking out newspaper ads to say they were sorry it seemed like Facebook might have things under control.
“I think traditional social media like Facebook usage might change in 2018 as mistrust around its usage grows,” said Namecheap R&D lab’s Phil McKegney. “I expect (and hope) to see that people will share less and be more critical of what is shared with them.”
Then in November the New York Times published a doozy of an article titled Delay, Deny and Deflect: How Facebook’s Leaders Fought Through Crisis.
It certainly seems likely Facebook problems will worsen in and throughout 2019. The next big question is will Instagram be affected by its parent company’s predicament?
